Shockwave Therapy

Alpine Chiropractic is pleased to provide the only shockwave unit in Fernie. Shockwave therapy is a relatively new form of treatment in the fields of orthopedic and rehabilitation medicine.

The primary effect of shockwave is a direct mechanical force as the wave’s energy passes through tissue. These waves are believed to cause a controlled impact on the tissue being treated. This results in a biological reaction within the cells of the tissue, which triggers the body to accelerate its natural healing response.

Shockwave has been shown to be successful in helping to treat a number of conditions including:

  • Plantar fasciitis
  • Patellar tendinitis
  • Tennis/golfer’s elbow
  • Shoulder tendinitis
  • Bursitis
  • Shin splints
  • Morton’s neuroma
  • Trigger points in muscles

Typically a treatment takes less than 10 minutes but will require several treatments spaced a few days apart to allow your body to do its natural healing between sessions. Shockwave is very safe, however, there are certain instances when shockwave is contraindicated. Dr. MacGregor will do a thorough history before commencing treatment to determine if shockwave is right for you.
